Why is it that I get my most compelling plot bunnies while I'm working on other projects that actually have, you know, deadlines? Sighs and takes notes to add to bunny hutch along with Sherlock case fic that's still lingering.

Spring weather has finally arrived here, but it won't be here for long, if the weather forecast is to be believed. Still, the azaleas and the viburnum are just about ready to pop. I love the way the viburnum smells, and it's right next to where I sometimes sit out on my front step to have a cup of tea.

I've been revisiting the list of goals I posted at the beginning of the year. I haven't done anything on the home improvement set of goals, so I'm going to redraft those and see what I can get done over the spring and summer. Now that I have 3 weeks of vacation, I'm thinking that I may slate half of that to getting house stuff (painting, repairs) done. The monthly organizational tasks are so far going well though. Also, I'm re-thinking the strength training goals, moving away from the idea of max deadlift, squat and bench press to focus on building core strength. I think it would be more meaningful to be able to do certain bodyweight exercises that currently elude me (e.g. unassisted pullup).

Work is going very well at the moment, and I'm not feeling as beleaguered by the amount of things on my plate as I was this time last year. I have bigger projects, but much less busywork. Still, I'm finding it a challenge to keep little things from slipping through the cracks or out of my mind.

Cooked chicken-under-a-brick (for values of 'brick' that = 'heavy saucepan wrapped in foil') last night. OMG delish. Imagine chicken that is distilled down to the essence of crispy skin. So good, and amazingly filling. One thigh was enough for my dinner last night with a side of potatoes and a salad. I have a new-to-me Griswold cast iron pan that is now my favorite skillet. The surface on it is a lot less porous than on the Lodge cast-iron, and it creates the best. fond. ever.

All necessary housework (except laundry) were done yesterday, and I've taken care of this weekend's yard work, so I have the rest of the day to write! Yay!

Pizza for lunch, I think.
