I have the right to like or dislike any show, ship, plot development, or fic genre. I also have the right to change my mind about any of these at any time. What I think about a show or a character or a pairing now may be entirely different from what I was thinking a year ago. While I may choose to defend or explain my preferences, I am hardly required to do so.

From time to time, I will unironically write a fic for a pairing I do not ship. This does not make me a hypocrite. It means I either had a very specific plot bunny or I chose to write a gift for someone whose tastes are different from my own.

I don't get ship wars. The existence of a certain ship has no impact on my enjoyment of a different ship. This holds true no matter how intense my dislike of a ship may be, or how 'unhealthy' I think it is. My dislike is not going to change anyone's mind. That said, my expressing a dislike for a ship is not a declaration of war. It is a declaration of like vs. dislike, much as I might say that I would prefer a lemon dessert to a chocolate dessert, or that I cannot abide mushrooms.

Corrollary to the above: My disliking something you like does not mean I dislike you, and vice versa. I may occasionally get annoyed by squeeing over something I dislike or don't care about, but chances are, people get annoyed by my squee. In any kind of community, people are going to occasionally rub each other the wrong way. Sometimes, going elsewhere for a while is necessary to maintain my composure. Again, this does not mean I am avoiding you, per se.

People are allowed to be heartbroken over something that happens in a show. They are allowed to be irrevocably heartbroken. This heartbreak is not karmic payback for them enjoying something about that show that I did not. Gloating over someone else's undeserved disappointment is not nice.

(Edit because I was thinking of it: the above are reminders to myself as much as they are declarations.)
